Happy Mother’s Day!

To celebrate Mother’s Day, I wanted to honor the one person in my life (besides Jesus)¬†who has been my main supporter, rooting me on every step of my life… that person is my mom.

My mom:

  • Has been there before day one, loving me, and having high aspirations for my life
  • Spent the first day of Spring in 1985 bringing me into this crazy world
  • Gave me her curly, unruly hair ūüôā
  • Never gave up on me, no matter how feisty, naughty, mean, rude, unappreciative, and ¬†distant I was
  • Believed in me (and still does!)
  • Continues to play Sorry! and other board games with me when I’m home
  • Is stronger and more determined than any other person I know
  • Has a wonderful sense of humor, and¬†a fantastic smile (pic shows the humor, not the smile! ūüėČ )
  • Cares immensely not only for me, but for the rest of our family, her friends, and also patients she sees at work
  • Helped save my life 11 years ago, even when I didn’t want to be saved
  • Has a poofy head of white hair, and wouldn’t want it any other way
  • Taught me how to be a strong, confident, self- sufficient person
  • Collects marbles on my behalf
  • Makes wonderful desserts (Like mother, like daughter?!:) )
  • Is a ridiculously talented¬†quilter
  • Loves my kitty since I can’t have her in my home
  • Always has time to listen to me- whether I’m complaining, bragging, laughing, or crying, she’s there when I call
  • Put up with me not showing her what my wedding dress looked like until the day of my wedding
  • Lights up a room with her personality
  • Loves God, and walks side by side with her personal Savior Jesus every day (!!!)
  • Never asks for anything in return
  • Used to sew¬†my sister and I matching Christmas dresses- Don’t worry mom, I forgive you for doing that to us!
  • Is beautiful, inside and out
  • Will love me as long as she’s on this planet- how cool is that?
  • Lets my sister and me stick our tongues on her for a photo

My mom is so many things besides the above, but there’s not enough time in the day, or space on my blog to post it all.

Mom, thank you for being you, and nobody else. I know I don’t tell you enough how much you mean to me, but know that each and every day,¬† I am SO thankful that I’m your daughter. Love you more than I can comprehend!

New venture!

Since I’ve known Ryan, he’s always wanted to be the owner of a company. He’s talked about it, thought about it, researched options, calculated fees, and thought about it some more. We’ve bounced back and forth about when the “right” time would be to have Ryan go on his own, and we finally came to the conclusion that now is the time. With that being said, I’m happy to announce that as of last month,¬†Ryan¬†is the proud owner of SilverNail Carpentry!

SilverNail¬†Carpentry¬†focuses on¬†new construction, remodeling, decks, windows, flooring, shingling,¬†trim,¬†and handyman services. As of now, the plan is to have Ryan working on his own for a year or two. That means that I’ll get to work with him on some projects, which I actually don’t mind. Ryan tells people that¬†the times I help him with work are dates, so I guess I’ll take what I can get! Sometimes¬†I get a meal out of the deal!¬†It’s actually really nice to be able to work side by side and learn how to do some of the tasks Ryan does on a day-to-day¬†basis. I’ve been told I’m quite the shingler! ūüôā

Below are just a few projects Ryan has worked on/completed. If you’re looking for a hard-working, loyal, skilled, (not to mention good lookin’!) carpenter, please consider SilverNail Carpentry for your next project.¬† If you’d like a bid, or would like to discuss a future project you have in mind, feel free to shoot me a comment, and I can provide you with Ryan’s contact information.¬†(Sorry for the advertising, but he’s my husband!)

Meet Dottie!

As I sit here, I cannot believe I’m finally starting my blog! It’s been a long time coming, and I’m so excited to be able to share a passion of mine with you! My hope is to be able to update the blog once a week, since I’m not able to bake and blog every day, or even every few days. I certainly wish I could though!

You may be wondering why I’ve named my blog Dottilicious¬†Sweets and Treats. Then again, you may not care! After much consideration, and asking for suggestions on names for the blog, I decided that I wanted to include Dottie, my KichenAid¬†mixer, in the name somehow. Dottie’s an integral part in almost all the sweets and treats I make. She’s typically only used by me, as I don’t feel comfortable letting just anybody use her. I think in the 4 years I’ve had Dottie, I’ve only let two people use her. I even use to make Ryan keep¬†her box for safe traveling! I’m sure by now you think I’m a tish off my rocker!

While Dottie is currently white, my hope is to one day have her painted with polka dots. If you know a great painter who is willing to create a masterpiece on a mixer, let me know!

Without further ado, I present my lovely KitchenAid mixer, Dottie!
